Dredging Project

The Dana Point Harbor Department is now in the final stage of receiving regulatory approvals for routine dredging in the Harbor. The project, scheduled to begin in early 2008, will remove unwanted coastal sand that has collected in the main channel at the west breakwater.

The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region, and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers this summer issued two critical approvals. The California Coastal Commission will be considering a Coastal Development Permit for the project in November.

Dredging is regularly performed in the harbor every 5-7 years to maintain navigable depths and widths.
